Tuesday Tip: The importance of fabric layers in firefighting clothing

In today’s tip we explain the importance of the layers that exist in a firefighter’s outfit.

1st Layer
Outer Layer – Provides resistance to flame, high temperatures, abrasion, and cuts.

2nd Layer
Moisture Barrier – Provides resistance to penetration by liquids such as water, body fluids and common chemicals keeping the firefighter clean and protected.

3rd Layer
Thermal Barrier – Protects the Firefighter against thermal heat transfer, keeping his body temperature regular.

4th Layer
Internal lining – Helps the thermal protection generating ideal comfort for the firefighter’s skin.
