When fall protection is required, establish a complete site survey program. This program should include worker training, equipment selection, assembly, and inspection. Remember: if you are at risk of falling in your workplace, you need and must use the proper equipment for your protection.

HELPFUL TIPS
– Check your equipment before each use;
– Replace defective equipment. If there is any doubt about the safety of the equipment, do not use it and contact the manufacturer immediately;
– Every piece of fall prevention equipment should be inspected and certified;
– Keep written records of inspections and approvals;
– The use of energy absorbers is advisable;
– Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions on:

The purpose of the device;
Hazard warnings;
Instructions and limitations of use;
The instructions for assembly and adjustment;
The recommendations for care (cleaning, maintenance and storage) and inspection
How to inspect the buckle?
– Check the perfect fit between them;
– Check if the buckles show signs of chemical or natural corrosion;
– Check if the buckles present deformation, sharp corners*.

*Intersection point or “sharp corners” – a particular fixed point existing in the intersection of the surfaces of the alignments.

How to inspect the rope?
– Inspect the string from end to end, checking that it is not frayed or cut. Weakened areas have noticeable changes in rope diameter;
– Replace when the diameter of the rope is not uniform, following a short period of softening;
– The older the rope, the greater the need for inspection becomes.

How do I clean my equipment?
Some basic care prolongs the life of the device and contributes to better performance;
– Clean all dirt from the surface with a sponge moistened with water. Wash the sponge and wring it out. Soak the sponge in a mild solution of water and/or neutral soap/detergent;
– Rinse the harness in clean water;
– Dry the harness with a clean cloth and hang to dry;
– Dry the harness and other equipment away from direct heat and long periods of sunlight;
– Store in a clean place free from sunlight, corrosive materials, sharp edges, or vibration. Do not deform or distort the harness.
