THE IMPORTANCE OF SANITIZING YOUR EQUIPMENT

by | 16/02/2016

Just like our personal hygiene and the care with the environment we live in, inspecting and sanitizing personal protective equipment (PPE) is indispensable.

Inspecting equipment that is stored and cleaned properly shows better results and allows for greater worker safety and a longer life for the equipment. It is always good and necessary to clean and wash the equipment.

Cleaning as part of maintenance after use should include the removal of dirt, corrosive agents, or contaminants. Storage areas should be clean, dry, protected from direct sunlight, and free from exposure to gases or corrosive elements.

Do not leave any traces of the washing! After contact with any disinfectant product, the equipment should be rinsed with plenty of clean water. Remember that the equipment should not be washed in high-pressure water.

Here are some tips for cleaning the equipment:

• Clean with mild soap and water at a temperature no higher than 60 °C. ATTENTION: Make sure that the water used for cleaning does not contain chemical products;
• Do not use any type of solvent or strong base;
• Do not use a washing and/or drying machine.

Nylon or polyester: remove the dirt from the surface with a damp sponge (soft bristles) and mild detergent. Rub the straps back and forth and dry with the help of a dry cloth. ATTENTION: Stiff bristles can wear down the cords, reducing its resistance.

Enclosure: Clean the storage unit periodically using a wet cloth and mild detergent. Dry with a clean cloth.

Drying: Make sure that the equipment dries completely. Remember: there is no need to expose it to heat, steam or sunlight for long periods. Drying in the shade and in a ventilated place is ideal.

After all necessary cleaning and drying, the equipment must be stored in a dry, chemically neutral environment, protected from excessive heat or heat sources, sharp edges, corrosive products, or anything else that can cause damage. Damp or wet equipment should never be stored.

Important information:
The accumulation of dust, paint, oils, grease, and so on can prevent the equipment from functioning properly. And in more serious cases, the degradation of the fabric may be such, that the equipment needs to be discarded. For more information and doubts about cleaning, maintenance, and other equipment usage conditions, please consult the manual or contact the manufacturer.
