THE FALSE SENSE OF SECURITY

by | 2/02/2016

Just like the security cameras that surround us every day, PPE also gives us the feeling of protection. But beware, this feeling can be tricky.

Nobody expects to get injured while wearing a full fall protection system. After all, this equipment is supposed to prevent that from happening, right?

Of course they are made for that, but the crucial aspect of this idea is: SUPPOSED. If you are not using a fall protection system correctly, or not taking into account some external factors that could render your system useless, your fall protection is doing nothing but giving you a false sense of security.

So what are some of the things you might be doing that endanger yourself or your co-workers, even if a fall protection system is in place?

Remember, safety is not about putting in or implementing a rule, but is really about protecting yourself and/or your employees.

Giving employees something that they think will help them, but won’t, is almost or just as dangerous as giving them nothing. A false sense of security could lead people to take risks they would not otherwise take.

Whether you are a user of fall protection equipment or an employer, make sure you know what you are using/providing and what you really need. If the answers don’t match the questions, you could be at serious risk of having an accident.
