We start this post by answering: Yes.
Based on the tests performed to obtain the CA, we can say that the Safety Harness can be used by a worker weighing more than 100 kg, but this possibility does not guarantee their physical integrity in case of a fall.
To better understand this issue, let’s analyze the Work at Height situation taking into consideration the ideal practices. Before getting into the issue of the equipment, we have to evaluate if the worker in question has the physical and health conditions to perform the function. It is the employer’s responsibility, via SESMT (Specialized Services in Safety Engineering and Occupational Medicine), to evaluate the worker to determine whether or not he is fit for the job.
The fact that a worker weighs 100 kg does not necessarily make him obese. Many people who weigh less than 100 kg are considered obese and unfit for work. Only an occupational physician can accurately assess this.
Is there a ban on workers weighing more than 100 kg?
The answer is no!
There is no legal basis that forbids workers over 100 kg to perform Work at Height. The NBRs of PPE for Work at Height specify a mass of 100 kg as a test standard in a limit condition. These are standards elaborated to establish requirements and test methodologies related to products, not to work procedure.
