The Regulatory Standard 6 of the Ministry of Labor, known as NR6 by Occupational Safety professionals, establishes the guidelines related to personal protective equipment (PPE) – use, typology, responsibilities of the worker and the employer, as well as the validity of the Certificate of Approval (CA), which is the document that enables the marketing of the product.
According to item 6.9.1 of NR6, the CA of a PPE CA can be valid for:
– five years, for equipment with test reports that do not have their conformity assessed under the SINMETRO system;
– the term linked to the conformity assessment under the SINMETRO system, when this is the case.
This resolution ended up raising doubts. After all, which validity date prevails? That of the CA or of the conformity under SINMETRO?
Since many professionals had this doubt and had nowhere to consult whether the item to be considered was the CA or the record of compulsory evaluation of INMETRO, the Ministry of Labor, in May 2016, published a technical note that would solve these doubts: the technical note No. 110/2016.
The technical note, among its observations on the validity and ways to obtain CA and conformity assessment, defines that, as of its publication, the CA and the registration of the conformity assessment of SINMETRO will have the same validity date, in the cases of PPEs that require conformity assessment.
